The Old Links Trophy for 2009 was a great success despite very wet conditions prior to the start of the event. Even so, in wet and windy conditions players managed some excellent play headed by home player Ste Bryan. Ste was inspired in his second round of 69, played in strong winds and difficult conditions; his great round enabled him to overtake local golfer Andy Runciman (Deane GC) who also had a score of 69 in the first round. Emphasizing the strong field second place overall was taken by Mark Young this year's Lancashire Champion with two excellent rounds of 73 and 71.
Many failed to master the course and conditions confirming Bolton Old Links as a course to be reckoned with.
